The Taliban police command in Uruzgan province confirmed that the body of Siddiqullah, a former government soldier, was dug up from his grave in Tarinkot, and the tomb was destroyed. While local Taliban officials termed the act “inhumane” and blamed “biased circles,” the soldier’s family insists that Taliban forces were responsible for this desecration.
Published images and videos reveal a shocking scene where the grave is completely demolished, exposing the burial chamber. A relative of the victim stated that the perpetrators not only removed the body but also mutilated it. Siddiqullah was assassinated in 2021, and his brother was also a military commander in the former administration.
This incident occurred despite the Taliban leader’s general amnesty decree. Although the Uruzgan police spokesperson promised an investigation, the event has sparked serious fears regarding the safety of living former soldiers and the sanctity of the deceased among the public.
