Zabihullah Mujahid, the chief spokesperson for the Taliban, took a clear stance on regional tensions in an interview with Radio Iran. He announced that while the Taliban do not desire war, if a conflict erupts between the United States and Iran, the group will stand with the Islamic Republic “to the extent of its ability.”
Mujahid emphasized that the Taliban favor resolving disputes through dialogue and do not see regional instability as beneficial. However, these remarks reflect the warming relations between Kabul and Tehran since the Taliban’s return to power, as Iran has maintained political and economic engagement with the interim government.
Experts believe such a pledge of support from the Taliban could complicate regional security dynamics. While Afghanistan struggles with internal crises, entering into international tensions between Iran and the US could have heavy consequences for Kabul. The US has not yet reacted to these statements.
