Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif, has issued a stern warning that Islamabad will not hesitate to launch more airstrikes inside Afghanistan if the Taliban fails to restrain militants. He emphasized that the military option remains on the table to counter cross-border threats effectively.
Asif alleged that militants enjoy safe havens in Afghanistan and accused the Taliban administration of complicity with these groups. He listed ISIS, TTP, and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement as active threats, further claiming that India is aligned with these factions to destabilize the region.
These remarks come amidst a surge in deadly attacks within Pakistan, including a recent bombing in Islamabad. While admitting that Pakistan has lost its sphere of influence in Afghanistan to regional rivals, Asif reiterated that they will take decisive action to protect their national security.
