US Immigration confirmed that Mohammad Nazir Paktiwal, a 41-year-old Afghan refugee, died after being transferred to hospital. He complained of shortness of breath and chest pain and was immediately transferred to hospital.

Immigration added that on March 14, while eating breakfast, medical staff noticed his tongue swelling, but after medical efforts, his death was announced. Paktiwal had been in detention for one day and was a former Afghan Special Forces soldier who worked with US forces since 2005.

He is the twelfth refugee to die in US immigration detention this year. Last year, 31 people died after detention, the highest number in two decades. #USA #Afghan\_Refugees #Immigration #Human\_Rights
