Lithuanian border guards have announced the detention of thirty-four undocumented migrants attempting to cross from Belarus. Among this newly detained group are several Afghan citizens who were desperately seeking asylum in Europe.
This marks the largest single group of migrants intercepted along this specific border route so far this year. Official reports indicate that these vulnerable asylum seekers originated from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Algeria, and Somalia.
Lithuanian authorities confirmed that all detained migrants were immediately pushed back into Belarusian territory. The controversial policy of summarily expelling asylum seekers from Lithuania's borders has been enforced more rigorously in recent years.
