Russian media outlets have reported that fuel imports to Afghanistan from Russia and Belarus have quadrupled during the first quarter of the current year. The total volume of these essential fuel imports has impressively reached over five hundred and thirty thousand tons.

Economic experts state this sharp increase is primarily due to Russia redirecting its exports toward Eastern markets following heavy Western sanctions. Despite lacking any official formal agreements with Moscow, Afghanistan has successfully managed to secure its fuel demands through these new channels.

Previously, a massive portion of Afghanistan's fuel was imported from neighboring Iran, but recent Middle East developments shifted these supply routes. Despite this significant surge in imports, fuel prices across local Afghan markets stubbornly remain at very high levels.
