Over six hundred former US civilian and military officials have penned an open letter urging the cancellation of a plan to transfer Afghan refugees to Congo. They warned that relocating former allies of American forces to nations with unstable security situations is a grave and dangerous mistake.
Reports indicate that the Trump administration intends to relocate more than a thousand Afghan refugees, including hundreds of children, from Qatar to the Democratic Republic of Congo. These asylum seekers were evacuated to camps in Qatar following the fall of Kabul and were promised American visas.
Many of these individuals are family members of active duty US military personnel and are currently facing severe uncertainty. The newly implemented American immigration policies have halted their relocation process, raising massive human rights concerns among advocacy groups.
