Hussain Dad Sharifi was recently detained and physically assaulted by Taliban administration forces in Kabul. The commission has strongly urged an immediate end to such disrespectful behavior.
Reports indicate that the Taliban administration officers humiliated the cleric for solemnizing the marriage of a young couple before their formal wedding ceremony. The engaged couple was arrested in a local market on accusations of an extramarital relationship, and their legal Islamic marriage certificate was entirely dismissed by the authorities.
Representatives from the Shia commission held a meeting with Taliban administration officials to prevent future insulting incidents against religious figures. While the authorities promised to investigate the matter thoroughly, they have not yet released any official public statement regarding the violent misconduct of their officers.
