The second sub-national polio vaccination campaign of the current year has officially commenced across twenty provinces in Afghanistan. This vital three-day campaign aims to vaccinate approximately 8.3 million children against the crippling disease.
The Ministry of Public Health under the Taliban government stated its strong commitment to eradicating the wild poliovirus in Afghanistan. Health officials have urged citizens to support and cooperate fully with vaccinators during this critical nationwide initiative.
According to the World Health Organization, while 25 positive polio cases were recorded last year, nine new cases have been identified so far this year. The vaccination process is now largely restricted to mosques and designated health centers rather than door-to-door campaigns.
