The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has published alarming details regarding the situation of former government military personnel. According to their latest quarterly report, five of these former forces were killed between January and March of this year.
UNAMA highlighted that retaliatory actions by the Taliban government against former defense and security forces persistently continue. During this specific timeframe, at least twenty cases of arbitrary arrest and detention of these individuals were officially documented and verified.
In addition to the widespread arrests, eight severe cases of torture and ill-treatment were reported. These disturbing findings strongly indicate that the general amnesty decree issued by the Taliban government is not being fully implemented across the country.
