Lemarquis will also serve as the Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for the United Nations in Afghanistan. His arrival immediately follows the UN Security Council’s decision to extend the vital UNAMA mission until June 2027.
With over three decades of international experience, he takes on this critical role at a challenging time. Afghanistan continues to grapple with extreme poverty, severe economic hardships, and an increasing dependence on international aid.
