The United States Geological Survey reported the massive quakes measured 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, striking just west of the capital city, Caracas. Countless buildings have completely collapsed, and authorities fear the death toll could rise significantly in the coming days.
US President Donald Trump has expressed deep concern over the potentially massive loss of life and offered immediate assistance. This natural disaster strikes shortly after the US military overthrew the long-standing government of Nicolas Maduro earlier this year.
