Doctors Without Borders announced that the number of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in southern Afghanistan has increased alarmingly. Many of these children are brought to hospitals in critical condition after delayed treatment.
Reports indicate that hospital admissions in Helmand and Kandahar provinces have risen by over 30 percent compared to previous years. Most of these young patients are under one year old and require urgent medical care to survive.
The reduction in international aid and ongoing droughts have left Afghan families unable to secure enough food. Doctors Without Borders urged the international community to quickly restore funding for essential nutrition and healthcare programs.
