Local sources in Herat province confirmed that the arrest of women and girls over alleged non-compliance with hijab rules continues. Forces of the Taliban government detained two young girls in the city center on Thursday.
Eyewitnesses reported that the girls were forced into a vehicle and taken to an unknown location while crying for help. Morality police patrols have significantly increased across the streets of Herat.
Dozens of Afghan women have been detained for similar reasons in recent weeks. Human rights organizations and the United Nations have strongly condemned these actions, demanding an immediate halt to the arbitrary arrests of women.
