Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban government, held a high-level meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran. The Afghan delegation traveled to the neighboring country to attend the funeral ceremonies of Iran's former supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.

During their talks, Baradar offered his condolences over Khamenei's death, who was killed in a joint US and Israeli strike months ago. The Taliban official strongly condemned the attacks as illegitimate, emphasizing the shared interests and strong bilateral relations between Kabul and Tehran across various political and economic sectors.

President Pezeshkian echoed the sentiment, highlighting the friendly ties between the two nations and the need to capitalize on existing opportunities. Since the Taliban government returned to power in 2021, engagement between Afghanistan and Iran has significantly increased, particularly in trade, transit, and border security coordination.
