At least forty people have died and eight others sustained injuries after a passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a deep ravine in southwestern Pakistan. The catastrophic accident occurred in the mountainous region of Danasar, located in the Zhob district of Balochistan province.
The overcrowded bus was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar when the driver reportedly lost control due to excessive speeding. Authorities indicate that the vehicle fell from a height of over twenty meters. The death toll was exacerbated because the bus was carrying extra passengers stranded from another broken-down vehicle.
Rescue teams from Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa immediately rushed to the scene to assist. However, the rugged terrain has severely hindered efforts to extract victims from the wreckage and transport the injured to local hospitals. Traffic accidents are notoriously common in Pakistan due to reckless driving and poor road conditions.
