UN Women has warned that severe cuts in international aid threaten to shut down women's support organizations. This funding crisis has deprived at least one million women and girls in Afghanistan and other crisis-hit countries of vital, life-saving support.
According to recent reports, these budget reductions have drastically weakened the ability of these groups to deliver critical services. Organizations operating in Afghanistan often work in remote areas where other international agencies have very limited access.
Most of these surveyed organizations stated they can no longer meet the rapidly growing needs. The UN is urgently calling on the global community to increase financial support and prevent the collapse of women's advocacy groups in vulnerable nations.
