Local sources in Daikundi province have reported the targeted assassination of a senior military official from the former republic government. The victim, identified as Mohammad Ali Toofan, previously served as a director in the national security directorate within the province.
According to credible reports, the former officer was fatally shot by unidentified armed men while sleeping outside his home at night. The attackers directly targeted his head and neck before swiftly escaping the crime scene, leaving behind unresolved questions about the motive.
Toofan had previously been detained and imprisoned by the Taliban government and recently mentioned being under close surveillance. Despite a general amnesty announced by the Taliban government leadership, mysterious killings of former security personnel continue to occur frequently across Afghanistan.
