Reports indicate that the girl planned to flee to Kabul with the boy, but they were identified en route and handed over to Taliban government authorities. Following her return to the family, the father committed this tragic crime.
Eloping for marriage has become increasingly common in Daikundi due to the prevalence of forced marriages. The Taliban government criminalizes running away from home and strictly punishes individuals involved in such socially condemned actions.
