In a joint statement marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the agencies warned that economic instability makes returnees susceptible to human trafficking and severe exploitation. Only a small fraction of these individuals have secured stable employment.
Multiple crises, including forced deportations and drastic cuts in humanitarian assistance, have worsened the situation for returnees. UN officials urgently called for increased support to protect these families from unsafe labor, forced marriage, and criminal exploitation.
