The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that at least 7.4 million Afghans received humanitarian aid from January to June this year. Of these, 4.6 million received food assistance, even as acute food insecurity continues to spread across the country.
However, OCHA warned that only 17 percent of the required budget had been funded by June. Of the $1.7 billion needed, $1.4 billion remains unfunded, leaving aid organizations struggling to meet growing needs with limited resources.
OCHA stressed that the ability of relief organizations to continue operations depends on adequate and flexible funding, as well as ensuring the safety of aid workers and maintaining suitable conditions for humanitarian access.
