Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai marked Independence Day with a message saying that preserving Afghanistan's independence requires lasting peace, national unity, and access to education for all children — both girls and boys.
In a post on X, Karzai wrote that a skilled and educated human workforce can only be built when every child, regardless of gender, has access to schooling. He stressed that national unity is strengthened when a shared sense of ownership and common destiny spreads throughout society.
The former president added that Afghanistan can only achieve progress and earn a respected place in the international community through national cohesion and strength. Karzai has repeatedly called on the Taliban to allow girls' education in recent years.
