The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that several Emirati leaders sent congratulatory messages to Taliban officials on the occasion of Afghanistan's Independence Day.
UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent a message to Taliban supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada. Deputy rulers Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan also sent similar messages to Taliban leadership.
The Taliban marked the 107th anniversary of Afghan independence on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The congratulations came as Afghanistan remains under Taliban rule.
