Doctors in the United States reported that a genetically modified pig kidney functioned in a 66 year old patient for 271 days.
The organ was transplanted in January 2025 and kept the patient off dialysis until it failed in October.
Physicians said the case proves animal organs can serve as a temporary bridge until a human donor is found.
