Former Afghan presidential spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said Zalmay Khalilzad empowered the Taliban to secure economic interests. He reacted to Khalilzads presence at the signing of an oil and gas deal between the Taliban and a Saudi company.
Sediqqi wrote that Khalilzads mission in Afghanistan was to bring the Taliban to power and create economic opportunities. The Taliban Mining Ministry signed an exploration and extraction contract for the Kashk Tirpal field with Delta International.
The US State Department said Khalilzad is not a government employee and does not represent America.
