Pakistan recorded its highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years during September 2026, according to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).\The Islamabad-based think tank announced that 225 militant attacks occurred across the country in September, resulting in at least 259 deaths and 242 injuries. This figure represents a 13% increase from the 199 attacks recorded in August.\In total, combining militant attacks and subsequent counter-operations by Pakistani security forces, the violence in September left 545 people dead and 261 injured. The deceased included 103 security personnel, 81 civilians, and 346 militants. The number of security force fatalities was the second-highest in the past year.\Balochistan province remained the most insecure region in Pakistan, with 131 recorded attacks. It was followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province with 58 attacks and the former tribal areas with 34 security incidents.\The report highlights a significant deterioration in the country's security situation. In the first nine months of 2026, a total of 1,232 attacks have been carried out across Pakistan, marking a 52% increase compared to the same period in 2025.\This surge in attacks occurs as Islamabad continues to accuse the Taliban administration in Afghanistan of providing sanctuary to members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The Taliban have consistently denied these allegations.\Source: Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS)🌐
