The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has issued a formal statement expressing deep concern regarding the recent arrests of women in Herat province by the Taliban government. The international organization emphasized that such aggressive actions have triggered extremely serious concerns regarding fundamental human rights violations.

The UN strongly urged the Taliban government to respect and uphold the basic rights of all Afghan citizens without discrimination. UNAMA strictly reminded the authorities that every individual, whether male or female, has an inherent right to freedom of movement and must enjoy entirely equal rights under the law.

Local sources have reported that at least twenty women were detained in Herat city over the past two days. Furthermore, public transport drivers have been strictly banned from carrying female passengers without a male guardian or those not adhering to mandated dress codes. Officials have remained silent on this issue.
