The United Front of Afghanistan has claimed that its forces attacked a Taliban-controlled prison in Helmand province on the morning of Monday, October 5. The anti-Taliban group stated that a hand grenade was used in the assault.

In a statement released on its X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday evening, the group alleged that the attack resulted in the death of one Taliban fighter and left two others wounded. The United Front of Afghanistan did not provide further details about the exact location of the prison or the identities of the Taliban members.

Local Taliban officials in Helmand have not yet commented on this claim. Independent sources have also been unable to verify the attack or the resulting casualties.

This claim comes as the United Front has asserted responsibility for several other attacks against Taliban forces in the southern provinces of Helmand and Kandahar in recent days. The group is one of several armed fronts that have formed to oppose the Taliban's rule since their return to power in August 2021.

In recent months, attacks by armed groups opposing the Taliban have increased in various parts of Afghanistan. Groups such as the National Resistance Front and the Afghanistan Freedom Front also regularly claim responsibility for attacks on Taliban positions and forces.

These attacks are primarily conducted in a guerrilla style, using roadside bombs, hand grenades, and hit-and-run tactics. Although these groups have not yet managed to gain control of any territory, their activities pose a continuous security challenge for the Taliban government. The Taliban government typically downplays these attacks or remains silent about them.
