The media office of the Aden security department announced that two missiles fired by the Houthi group targeted Aden International Airport in Yemen early on Wednesday morning. According to the statement, there have been no reports of casualties.
Reuters reported that Aden International Airport serves as the main international gateway for the parts of Yemen that are outside of Houthi control.
Aden acts as the temporary capital for Yemen's internationally recognized government. The city has been targeted by Houthi attacks multiple times in the past.
Prior to the official announcement, the Al Arabiya news network, citing the sound of explosions in Aden, had reported that initial accounts suggested the airport was targeted by two Houthi missiles.
Similarly, the Al Hadath news network reported that the Iran-backed Houthis had targeted the runway of Aden International Airport. Such an attack could negatively impact humanitarian operations and civilian travel.
