An explosion occurred on Wednesday morning, October 7, near the Taliban's police headquarters in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan province. The Taliban government has confirmed the incident.
The office of the spokesman for the Taliban's police command in Badakhshan announced that the explosion was caused by explosives hidden inside a flower pot. According to this entity, the target of the explosion was a Corolla-type car, and as a result, two civilians were slightly injured.
Taliban officials also reported the identification and arrest of four suspects in connection with the incident. However, local sources in Badakhshan told media outlets that Taliban forces arrested more than 40 people in response to the explosion.
According to local sources, the event took place in the "Chowk-e-Proja" area, a location where day laborers typically gather in the mornings to find work. These sources added that after the explosion, Taliban forces fired into the air to disperse the crowd and prevent them from approaching the scene.
This explosion occurs as Badakhshan province has witnessed several other security incidents in recent days and weeks. According to local sources, on Sunday, October 4, a motorcycle bomb exploded in the 6th district of Faizabad, targeting Taliban intelligence employees.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for today's explosion. Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan is one of the provinces where anti-Taliban armed groups, including the National Resistance Front, are active and occasionally clash with Taliban forces.
