Local residents report that armed robbers killed a young shopkeeper named Sultan Naimi on Thursday morning in the Daman area of Jalalabad's eighth municipal district. According to eyewitnesses, Mr. Naimi was on his way to his shop when he was attacked.
Initial reports from local people indicate that after killing the young man, the robbers stole his cash and motorcycle. The incident has spread fear and panic among local business owners and residents, who have been complaining about a rise in criminal activity in the city.
Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, has witnessed a worrying increase in armed robberies, kidnappings, and other crimes in recent months. Residents are calling on the Taliban government to take more serious measures to ensure the safety and security of citizens' lives and property.
One local resident, who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity, said, "Every day we witness a tragic incident. There is no security, and thieves roam freely. We demand that the security officials address this situation."
So far, Taliban security officials in Nangarhar have not officially commented on the incident or any measures being taken to apprehend the perpetrators.
The rise in poverty and unemployment following the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan is considered one of the main reasons for the increase in crime across the country. Many young people, driven by desperation and a lack of job opportunities, are joining criminal gangs, posing a significant challenge to social security.
