U.S. President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform, Truth Social, that he had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to their discussion, Russia has agreed to immediately supply 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to global markets, with millions more tons to follow in the coming months, in a bid to curb soaring prices.

Trump clarified in his post that this step is being taken to control economic pressures and contain diesel prices in both global and American markets. He detailed the agreement, stating that after the initial phase, 500,000 tons will be supplied in November, 1 million tons in December, and approximately 3 million more tons will be released from Russian refineries thereafter.

To facilitate this process, Trump added, the U.S. Treasury Department has temporarily lifted some sanctions imposed on Russia's energy sector, allowing the diesel fuel to reach international markets without hindrance. This move represents a significant shift in U.S. policy regarding sanctions on Russia.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has also confirmed the conversation and the agreement on the fuel supply in a statement. The deal comes as the war in Ukraine continues and Western nations have been attempting to limit Russia's energy revenues.

On the other hand, the deal has drawn a sharp rebuke from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy strongly condemned the agreement, calling it a sign of American weakness in the face of Russia. He argued that this action allows Russia to use its oil revenues to finance its war efforts and undermines international attempts to isolate Moscow.
