A video from the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv shows military recruitment officers dragging a naked, screaming man into a van, amid manpower shortages in the war against Russia.
The incident, which has sparked public outrage in Ukraine, reportedly occurred after the officers tore off the man's clothes before dragging him out of a building. The man was forced into the van while screaming.
Such aggressive detentions, which have become known as "busification," are reportedly an almost daily occurrence across Ukraine. These actions are part of the government's efforts to compensate for a severe shortage of soldiers on the front lines.
As the war with Russia drags on, Ukraine is facing a critical manpower challenge. Consequently, the government has tightened conscription laws, and recruitment officers have resorted to more aggressive methods in their search for men eligible for military service.
While the need for soldiers to defend the country is understood, these violent methods have drawn widespread criticism domestically. Many Ukrainian citizens consider these actions a violation of human rights and dignity and are calling for a more humane approach to mobilization.
