Police in the Italian city of Milan clashed with protestors for a second consecutive day on Sunday, as demonstrations against poor public services and the rising cost of living turned violent.

On this day, demonstrators threw stones, looted shops, and set rubbish bins on fire in the city center. Riot police used tear gas and water cannons to push them back.

Several hundred hooded protestors gathered near Piazza Duomo, a major city landmark, and caused chaos by smashing shop windows and starting fires.

Reuters, citing sources with knowledge of the investigation, reported that more than 60 protestors were taken to the police station for further checks. The protests have been described as echoing recent unrest in France.

These demonstrations reflect growing discontent among a segment of the European population regarding economic and social conditions. Experts say that rising inflation and declining purchasing power have created a fertile ground for such protests.

The Italian government has not yet officially reacted to the violence, but security measures are expected to be tightened in the country's major cities. These events have raised concerns about social stability in Italy and other European nations.

Civil activists have called on the government to address the protestors' demands and find solutions to the economic and social problems to prevent a recurrence of such violence.
