The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) has confirmed that one of its commanders, "Mirwais Khan," was killed in a clash with Taliban forces. The NRF stated that the incident occurred two days ago.

In a statement released late on Tuesday, October 20, the front announced that Mirwais Khan died in the Hindu Kush mountains. The statement added that before being killed, he managed to kill three Taliban members and injure two others.

This confirmation comes after media outlets close to the Taliban reported on Sunday that the NRF commander was killed during a special operation by Taliban intelligence forces in the Priyan district of Panjshir province.

A Taliban-controlled media outlet named "Sajil" had also reported that Mirwais Khan was the nephew of Saleh Mohammad Registani, a senior NRF commander and the front's chief of operations. The NRF's statement did not mention this familial relationship.

The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan was formed under the leadership of Ahmad Massoud after the Taliban's return to power in August 2021. The front is engaged in an armed struggle against the Taliban government, stating its goal is the "liberation of Afghanistan" from the group's control.

Over the past two years, sporadic clashes have occurred between the two sides in various regions, particularly in the provinces of Panjshir, Baghlan, and Takhar. Several NRF commanders and members have been killed in these conflicts. The Taliban have consistently claimed to have severely suppressed the front, but the NRF continues its activities.
