The office of the Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs has announced a meeting of the inter-ministerial investment committee. During the meeting, held to attract investment and promote economic development, several key infrastructure projects were discussed.

According to a statement released by the office, a primary topic of discussion was a private sector investment plan for the mining sector. This plan includes the exploration, extraction, and processing of phosphate, copper, and zinc mines in various parts of the country. The committee tasked the Taliban's Ministry of Mines and Petroleum with conducting a comprehensive review of the proposal and presenting its report at the next meeting.

Additionally, a proposal for the construction of a large underground commercial market in the first district of Kabul city was also reviewed. This project aims to reduce traffic congestion and create a modern commercial space in the heart of the capital. It is anticipated that the market could generate thousands of jobs and boost the local economy.

The investment committee directed the relevant sub-committee to expedite the completion of social and traffic impact studies for the market project. These studies are intended to assess the project's effects on local residents, traffic flow, and the environment, and to propose practical solutions to mitigate any negative consequences.

The Taliban government is attempting to encourage both domestic and foreign investors to invest in various sectors, particularly mining, by offering incentives and security guarantees. They believe that developing the mining sector could become a primary source of revenue for the country and reduce its dependence on foreign aid.

However, challenges such as a lack of transparency, inadequate infrastructure, and persistent security concerns remain significant obstacles to large-scale investment in Afghanistan. The success of these proposed projects will depend on the Taliban government's ability to create a stable and trustworthy environment for the private sector.
