Ayesha Wahab, an Afghan-American representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, is seeking to retain her seat for a full two-year term in California's 14th congressional district in the midterm elections. She previously won a special election to complete the remainder of the former representative's term.

According to CBS News, Wahab's campaign has focused on economic and livelihood issues. She has declared her main priorities to be reducing the cost of living, combating unfair price hikes, expanding tax credits for renters, and supporting seniors on fixed incomes.

Wahab, who previously served in the California State Senate, says she worked during that time to tackle hidden corporate fees and prevent price gouging. She has pledged to continue fighting against large corporate monopolies if she wins. She is endorsed by prominent Democratic figures such as California Governor Gavin Newsom and Independent Senator Bernie Sanders.

Ayesha Wahab was born in New York, but her life took her to California. After her father was killed and her mother passed away, an Afghan family adopted her. She completed her schooling in Fremont and later earned a doctorate from the University of Southern California.

Wahab's main rival in this election is Melissa Hernandez, another Democratic candidate. The competition between the two has been intense in recent weeks, with millions of dollars spent on their campaigns. Hernandez, a former mayor of Dublin, has focused on strengthening law enforcement and reducing crime.

Public safety has become a central theme of this race. In one debate, Wahab highlighted the importance of justice for victims by referencing her father's murder in New York, which remains unsolved after 30 years. In response, Hernandez pointed to her record of increasing the number of police officers during her time as mayor.
