The World Panjshir Council reported that Taliban government forces detained and tortured a schoolteacher in the Abdullah Khel valley of Panjshir province. According to the council, the teacher, identified as Mohammad Hashim, was detained while returning home from a mosque.
Local sources confirmed to Afghanistan International that Mohammad Hashim, a teacher at Malik Mirza Shahid High School, was taken into custody by the Taliban chief of staff in Panjshir following evening prayers.
The council's statement detailed that the teacher was subjected to physical abuse and struck with rifle butts until late at night. A local community representative who visited the base to inquire about his detention was also verbally abused and assaulted.
Reports indicate heightened security checks and pressure on local residents across Panjshir, with checkpoints stopping citizens to inspect national identity documents.
The World Panjshir Council condemned the incident as an arbitrary detention and human rights violation, urging international organizations to investigate.
Taliban authorities have not officially commented on the allegations or the detention of the educator.
