Sanga Siddiqi, a human rights activist who migrated from Afghanistan 17 years ago, has been nominated for the City Council of Zoetermeer, Netherlands.
She is running under the banner of the D66 party, a major political force that recently won parliamentary elections.
Currently working at the Dutch Ministry of Finance, Siddiqi aims to promote meaningful participation of women in decision-making processes.
She believes that women’s lived experiences can make politics more humane, just, and accountable. The election is scheduled for March 18.
Siddiqi views her candidacy not just as a personal step, but as an effort to amplify the voices of women and immigrants.
Her nomination highlights the growing integration and political engagement of the Afghan diaspora in Europe.
