Taliban police command in Paktia has begun confiscating smartphones from its security personnel following a directive from supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada.
The move is officially described as a measure to improve security focus and prevent “corruption” within the ranks.
Officials stated that smartphones are now banned at checkpoints and military units to mitigate security risks.
This aligns with previous rhetoric from Taliban leadership, including the Minister of Higher Education, who famously labeled smartphones as the “enemy.”
Sources indicate that Hibatullah holds a strong aversion to internet access and smart devices, viewing them as tools for spreading dissent.
The ban appears to be an effort to tighten control over information and discipline among foot soldiers.
