Richard Lindsay, the UK Special Representative for Afghanistan, held a meeting with Sardar Ahmad Shakib, the Taliban’s ambassador in Islamabad. The discussions focused on regional security concerns and the impact of Taliban policies on Afghan women and girls.
Lindsay also met with Pakistan’s special envoy to discuss cross-border terrorism and security. While the UK does not officially recognize the Taliban administration, it maintains contact to address counter-terrorism and humanitarian access.
The meeting highlights London’s pragmatic approach to engaging with the group as the de facto authority. The Taliban’s foreign ministry continues to claim extensive relations with various countries despite the lack of formal recognition.
