The United Nations has reported that over 13.8 million people in Afghanistan are currently grappling with acute food insecurity. Among them, nearly 5 million children and pregnant or nursing women are suffering from severe malnutrition.
According to the UN report, economic collapse, unemployment, climate shocks, and rising food prices are the primary drivers of this escalating hunger crisis. The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that specialized food aid reserves are rapidly depleting.
The WFP director in Afghanistan emphasized that nutritional assistance is an essential lifeline for millions of mothers and children, not an option. He warned that cutting off these vital supplies poses a massive threat to the lives of vulnerable individuals across the country.
