A military trial has begun at the Devonport Naval Base for a New Zealand Defence Force member accused of threatening an Afghan interpreter with death. Years ago, the interpreter had attempted to ask the Minister of Defence for help in relocating his wife.

The Afghan interpreter testified in court that the accused had warned him thirteen years ago that he would be killed if he spoke to the minister. He had worked with New Zealand forces in Bamiyan province since two thousand and ten.

In two thousand and twelve, the New Zealand Defence Force offered local interpreters the option to leave Afghanistan with their families. The proceedings of this case are scheduled to continue with the presence of additional witnesses, including the interpreter's wife.
