United Nations experts have expressed deep concern over the excessive use of force by the Taliban government against protesters in Herat province. The demonstrations erupted after authorities arrested dozens of Afghan women for allegedly violating strict dress codes.

According to reports, security forces opened fire on the crowds, killing at least two people, including a child, and leaving more than twenty others injured. The UN emphasized that targeting women over their clothing violates fundamental human rights and freedom of expression.

International monitors are urging the Taliban government to conduct a swift, impartial, and transparent investigation into the deadly shootings. They also demanded the immediate release of all detained individuals and an end to discriminatory practices.
