The Committee to Protect Journalists has issued a statement urging the Taliban government to immediately release the director of Tamadon TV and his colleague. The organization emphasized that Mohammad Rahmati and Mohammad Reza Ehsani must be freed unconditionally, and the network's confiscated broadcasting equipment should be returned.
Reports indicate that Rahmati's health has significantly deteriorated during his time in detention. He suffers from heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, leading media advocates to argue that keeping a sick journalist imprisoned is a serious violation of human rights and international press standards.
The two media workers were detained about two weeks ago after Tamadon TV's broadcasts were suspended and they were summoned under the guise of negotiations. Media support organizations warn that the continued arbitrary arrest of journalists will only further expand the atmosphere of fear and censorship across Afghanistan.
