The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed that its forces killed one Taliban member and wounded three others in an attack on a Taliban checkpoint in Kunar province.
In a statement on Wednesday, the front announced that the attack took place at 8 PM on Tuesday, October 27, on a checkpoint in the Noabad area of Asadabad, the provincial capital. The statement added that AFF forces returned to their bases after the attack.
The Freedom Front did not provide further details about the attack, such as its nature. Local Taliban officials in Kunar and the group's central spokesmen have not yet commented on the claim.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front is one of several armed groups formed to oppose the Taliban after they returned to power in August 2021. The front is primarily composed of security personnel from the former government.
In recent months and weeks, the AFF has claimed responsibility for several guerrilla attacks on Taliban positions and convoys in various provinces, including Kabul, Parwan, Kapisa, Takhar, and Kunar. Although these attacks are small-scale, they indicate the continuation of armed resistance against the Taliban government in parts of the country.
However, the Taliban government typically downplays the activities of armed opposition fronts and either denies or remains silent about their claims of casualties among Taliban forces. Due to restricted access to independent information, verifying these claims from impartial sources is difficult. Source: Afghanistan Freedom Front
