Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of the former prime minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, was elected as the chief minister of the Punjab state of Pakistan.
AFP has reported that Shahbaz Sharif, the uncle of Maryam Nawaz, who was the prime minister of Pakistan in the past, is likely to become the prime minister once again after reaching an agreement with the Pakistan People’s Party.
50-year-old Maryam Nawaz won by 220-0 votes against Rana Aftab, an ally of Imran Khan, the former prime minister of this country.
Maryam is the first woman to lead a state in Pakistan.
Maryam Nawaz called her election to this seat a historic decision.
He added: “This is a victory for all women and the success of all girls and mothers.”
It proves that being a woman and being a girl can’t limit dreams.”
