Collective Security Treaty Organization: Taliban pose a serious threat to the world
Imangali Tasmagbitov, the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), stated in a meeting of the organization’s Security Council last night that Afghanistan under the rule of the Taliban is the main source of instability in the Central Asian region.
Mr. Tasmagbitov warned that terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking in Afghanistan under Taliban control pose a serious and growing threat to the world. He emphasized that the CSTO has formed a special working group to address the existing challenges in Afghanistan.
The CSTO Secretary General also announced that the organization is considering cooperation with the United Nations in maintaining peace in Afghanistan.
This comes as Taliban officials have repeatedly stressed that no terrorist groups exist in Afghanistan under their control and that the country does not pose a threat to other nations.
