Justin Trudeau has strongly condemned the Taliban’s “horrific attack” on women’s and girls’ rights in Afghanistan
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has strongly condemned the Taliban’s “horrific attack” on women’s and girls’ rights in Afghanistan. The latest decree, which prohibits women’s voices in public spaces, represents a deliberate attempt to erase women from society, according to Trudeau.
Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the Taliban’s Minister for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, recently announced that women’s voices are forbidden in public spaces, even among women themselves. He emphasized that adult women are not allowed to say “Alhamdulillah” or “Subhanallah” during prayers to another woman, let alone sing.
The ministry released an audio file of Hanafi’s statements on Saturday (October 26), where he defended the gradual implementation of these restrictions. The new six-point decree classifies women’s voices as “awrah” (intimate parts) and prohibits women from traveling without a male guardian, mandating full coverage for women.
