China-Afghanistan Railway Link Launches
The Taliban embassy in Beijing has announced the inauguration of a new freight railway line connecting China and Afghanistan. The route, starting from Nantong city in China, aims to facilitate goods exchange with Afghanistan’s Hairatan port in the north
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Bilal Karimi, the Taliban’s representative in China, Yue Xiaoyong, China’s representative for Afghanistan, and several Nantong officials including the mayor and heads of transportation and foreign relations departments. The first train journey has commenced, with 50 containers expected to reach their destination within 20 days.
During the ceremony, Bilal Karimi emphasized that the Taliban prioritizes economic relations with neighboring countries, suggesting this project will strengthen Kabul-Beijing economic and trade cooperation. He also highlighted the potential of the Wakhan Corridor as an affordable connection between Afghanistan and China.
